We started out creating a day about us, but the truth is, it was actually a day about our lives and the people who make our lives possible." -Patrick, the groom
YAY, Patrick and Katie are married!!! You may remember this couple from their super popular nerdy engagement session in Central Park! That session was just a tiny taste of the couple's creativity! Their wedding day included some of the most original DIY details I've ever seen, from their THREE different invitation suites to THIRTEEN uniquely themed centerpieces. It also features the most emotional First Look! <3
The couple mastered an X-Acto knife and a paintbrush in order to bring their Lord of the Rings invitation suite to life! The "Realm of New Jersey" map and the real wax seal still amaze me! This invitation went out to all of Patrick's family.
Their second invite is insanely creative! The couple created a combo Daily Planet and Comic book with a coherent story! This suite went out to all of Patrick and Katie's close friends!
Patrick made these incredible comic book origami boutonnieres for all his groomsmen!
Ahhh the centerpieces!! I couldn't even fit them all into this blog post! Here are some of my favorite P+K creations! First up, the Pixar table...I'm obsessed! How amazing is their recreation of the house from Up?! The house flies above Andy’s toys, Boo’s door, and Mr. Incredible’s trophy room, and Woody’s boot displays their initials and wedding date!
They even replicated Carl and Ellie's mailbox!
I thought it fitting to show their "I Love Lucy" centerpiece in black & white! They created a working TV (using a digital photo frame) which played screenshots of some of the most popular "I Love Lucy" episodes! Surrounding the TV is a mock conveyer belt with chocolates, a bottle of Vitameatavegamin, Ricky’s bongo, and Lucy and Ethel’s chef hats from the chocolate episode. Finally, the famous heart logo proudly sits atop the TV in the form of a satin pillow.
Their "Classic Hollywood" centerpiece symbolizes their love for timeless films such as Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, and Gone with the Wind. In Patrick's words...
"It seemed fitting to use the Empire State Building as the foundation for this piece considering our personal connection with this iconic landmark. It’s no coincidence that I proposed to Katie in a place that evokes powerfully romantic images and memories from films like An Affair to Remember and of course King Kong. Starting from the base which is several old film reels stacked upon one another, a piece of film wraps itself around the building and it is adorned with movie posters, mostly the great romances. Finally, the tragic monster Kong perches atop the piece, an homage to the great films of Golden Age Hollywood."
And of course, Titanic for Katie! Their sweetheart table was Nintendo themed to represent their shared love of games.
Their ceremony was just as unique as the rest of the wedding day! Patrick, if you haven't noticed by now, is a phenomenal writer. He penned a nerdy, beautiful, and eloquent ceremony performed by their dear friend Arci. To give you a tiny taste...here is how the ceremony opened...
"Friends and family, welcome! Lords and ladies, hail and good tidings! Klingon warriors, Ba-tlah Meb-Nukh Nekhh! Jedi knights, this evening welcome you are. We are gathered here today to witness and celebrate a union between two people many years in the making and I think it’s safe to say that we can agree in all the tongues of elves, men and orcs, that it’s about time! Before proceeding any further in this most joyous of occasions, we invite you to participate in an ancient greeting ritual originating in a galaxy far, far away. Today is a day of community, love, and lightsabers and in that spirit we ask that you turn to those around you and recite the universal greeting of nerds everywhere: 'May the force be with you.'"
Their wedding party fully embraced the theme and even read their toasts off of ancient scrolls!
Guests were surprised when they were told one person from each table would be going home with a special gift from the couple! Under one seat at each table was a Wonka's Golden Ticket!
Patrick and Katie cut their Wall-E topped wedding cake with the sword from their Lord of the Rings table!
Congratulations to one of the most true-to-self couples I've ever met! May a long marriage be with you! Er, does that work? I'm not really too up to snuff on my nerd-lingo! ;)
