"Those mannequins are real fat lookin..."⠀ ⠀ I had just been walking through the aisles thinking "Target, I'm so proud of you for representing all body sizes." I was just turning the corner away from this display when I heard his comment.⠀ ⠀ My eyes had transformed into daggers and faced this 50ish year old man with the fury of a thousand suns. ⠀ ⠀ "What did you just say?"⠀ ⠀ "These things are fat lookin."⠀ ⠀ Things. My hands started to shake and the rage started to turn my cheeks pink.⠀ ⠀ "No they are not. And you are wrong."⠀ ⠀ The onlookers whispered to each other. ⠀ ⠀ "Well, they are..."⠀ ⠀ "You are rude sir. And you are WRONG." ⠀ ⠀ He walked away. As did I. I could tell he was going to continue to get strangers on his side. I faintly heard a "You get it right?"⠀ ⠀ I was so tempted to walk back and make an even bigger scene. But a man who calls mannequins fat to strangers in public is most likely looking for a scene. It was so absurd I wondered if I was on hidden camera. I wondered for a brief second if I seemed absurd defending a bunch of mannequins.⠀ ⠀ But @target did such a good job with these mannequins, that they didn't feel fake to me. I felt like I was defending REAL women. Defending my stepmom who just had a sleeve put in to lose weight. Defending myself. Defending any woman who has ever struggled with their weight or their visual value.⠀ ⠀ Defending common decency.⠀ ⠀ In hindsight I wish I had reported him to management and had him removed from the store. But I was scared. I was breathing quickly, body shaking, preparing for a fight. ⠀ ⠀ I am thankful I had the courage to speak up, but wish I had the courage to do more. My prayer today is that we all have the courage to speak up and do more. That a bully loses his voice and walks away. That a bully learns compassion. I pray for change and for courage. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you @targetstyle for representing women of all shapes and sizes in your Bridgewater store. It's the first step.
I wish the little girl version of myself could know her dreams of Paris would someday come true. I was convinced watching Anastasia on repeat would transport me there just like Dorothy clicking her heels together 3 times. But as it turns out, it's not magic that gets you places. First up, sneak peek for Ashley & Jonah!!! These two love birds celebrated their anniversary in Paris with a sunrise session at the Eiffel Tower! We then traveled through the Tuileries with a quick stop at the Louvre and ended at the gorgeous Palais Royal (pictured here). I was basically jumping up and down the entire session - and not just because it was freezing out! How cute are these two?!!?! We're HOOOOME!!!! Who else feels they need a vacation after vacation?! Unpacking, laundry, a mountain of emails, prepping for a wedding this weekend, and sooo many pretty photos to go through! Shipping my film off to @thefindlab today and will be anxiously waiting for the scans to arrive! Until then I'll share a few digital sneak peeks of the sessions I photographed while abroad!
